Provisionals & Practicums

What to Expect

Supervision is so much more than caseload reviews; it’s about supporting and challenging you to be the best practitioner you can be through self-reflection, exploring perspectives, identifying strengths and limitations, trying out new theoretical approaches, put theory in to practice, expanding your repertoire of interventions, digger deeper and growing further.

Current or Prospective Provisional Psychologists

If you are seeking a supervisor as a current or prospective psychologist – please reach out to Sharon Mailloux with your cover letter, CV, and a brief description of what you are looking for such as an external supervisor or complete your supervision hours within Indigo Counselling and Consulting.

External supervision may be accommodated anywhere in Alberta while internal supervision can be accommodated in Whitecourt or Lacombe.  There is a fee for supervision for Provisional Psychologists that will be discussed prior to signing a supervision contract.  For those completing their provisional hours within Indigo Counselling and Consulting, the frequency and cost of supervision will be built into Affiliate Contract.

Whether you would be receiving internal or external supervision, it will be expected that you also secure a Secondary Supervisor.  This individual is a back-up in the event of the primary supervisor’s extended absence or potentially to enhance your supervision experience if that individual operates/provides services/has a theoretical orientation that you are interested in but is not offered through Indigo Counselling and Consulting (i.e., working with children, play or art therapy, etc).

Practicum Placements

Practicum placements for Bachelor of Social Work and Master’s of Counselling may be provided through Lorelei Hoyt (Whitecourt only) or Sharon Mailloux (Lacombe only) depending on your educational institutions guidelines.

Potential practicum students will be expected to submit a cover letter and resume or CV complete with references prior to having a semi-formal interview.  At this interview you will be expected to know the hours and activities (including direct client contact, client activities and client involved assignments and supervision requirements) of your practicum.  This ensures when we go forward that we are able to provide a fulfilling placement for you!  It is also helpful (but not necessary) to know what client populations, presenting issues, and theoretical orientations you are interested in.
